Your Zoom Workplace customer questions answered

Over the past few years, as AI has become increasingly mainstream, our understanding of what it does and will be able to do has kept evolving. We wanted to take a minute and get a pulse check on what people want to know about Zoom AI Companion and Zoom Workplace and where it’s going in the next year.

Zoom AI Companion

We had many wonderful questions about AI Companion, both current and future features. Here’s a breakdown of what customers wanted to know:

  • How much does AI Companion cost?
    • AI Companion is available at no additional cost with the paid services in Zoom user accounts (Pro, Business, Enterprise, etc.).
    • While many other companies charge monthly fees per user for AI tools, Zoom Workplace includes AI Companion for no additional cost with eligible paid plans.
    • Learn more about which plans are eligible for AI Companion.
  • What large-language models (LLMs) do we use with Zoom AI Companion?
    • Unlike some other AI tools that focus on a single family of AI models to accomplish generative AI, Zoom uses a federated approach in addition to our own models.
    • Depending on the prompt's nature, we use a combination of our own models and third-party models, including those from Anthropic and OpenAI.
    • To support organizations with certain data processing requirements, some AI Companion features are available with a Zoom-hosted models-only option, limiting AI models to the ones that Zoom hosts.
  • What new features are coming in AI Companion 2.0?
    • AI Companion is now accessible within the Zoom Workplace app.
    • You can use it to ask questions about past meeting summaries, recap entire email threads, and, if connected, access other sources like Microsoft Outlook, Gmail, Google Calendar, and uploaded files from Microsoft Office and Google Docs.
    • Read more about all of the new features available in AI Companion 2.0.
  • Can we customize AI Companion?
    • We announced a custom AI Companion add-on expected in the first half of 2025
    • You will be able to increase accuracy by adding your unique organization and industry terms
    • Create customized meeting summary templates
    • Add AI Companion to non-Zoom meetings
    • More features to come

AI safety, security, and privacy

We received many questions about how Zoom considers AI safety, security, and privacy when building our products. This is a critical topic, and we’re delighted to offer clear guidance about how we think about it at Zoom.

  • At Zoom, we’re committed to developing AI responsibly, with security and privacy at the core of our ongoing investment in AI. In line with that commitment, Zoom does not use any of your audio, video, chat, screen sharing, attachments, or other communications-like customer content (such as poll results, whiteboard, and reactions) to train Zoom’s or its third-party artificial intelligence models. You can find more detailed information in our Privacy and Security Whitepaper, available for everyone to download and read.
  • Many AI Companion features are available for our healthcare customers with BAA. To learn more about Zoom’s support for HIPAA Compliance, read our HIPAA Compliance guide and AI Companion in Healthcare guide.
  • We’re also releasing an ongoing blog series about AI Safety and Security with Zoom Chief Information Security Officer Michael Adams. Read the first entry here and to get future blogs on this topic sent directly to you, subscribe to our blog.

Our Chief Legal Officer, Cheree McAlpine, recently published a legal and compliance guide to Zoom AI Companion to help organizations understand common approaches to tailor their AI Companion experience to meet their unique legal, compliance, and privacy needs.

Zoom Docs

We launched Zoom Docs in August 2024, our first AI-first product, and we’ve been thrilled with the response from customers. Since then, people have asked fantastic, in-depth questions about features and functionality.

  • How is Zoom Docs different from traditional word processors like Microsoft Office 365 or Google Docs?
    • Google Docs and Microsoft Word are traditional word processors. Zoom Docs is an AI-first central repository for text, images, and even full files, which could include Microsoft or Google files.
    • You can also embed files and content, such as PDF files, YouTube videos, whiteboards, code, tables, or other files.
    • Instead of screen sharing a regular document in a Zoom Meeting, when you directly share a Zoom Doc, anyone in the meeting can edit it. No need to worry about permissions.
  • What is the file format for Zoom Docs?
    • Zoom Docs don’t use a typical file format. Instead of emailing copies of a file, you can share a link for people to edit it from Zoom Workplace, a web browser, or even directly in a Zoom Meeting. You can also save it as a PDF if needed.
  • How can you use AI Companion in Zoom Docs?
    • As an AI-first product, AI Companion is connected throughout to help create next-gen, AI-first, collaborative docs.
    • You can prompt for first drafts, translate into different languages, manage data tables, and much more.
    • Learn more about what you can do with Zoom Docs.
