The interview is the richest source of evidence in hiring, and the least reliably captured. Interviewers are forced to half-listen while they take notes, recruiters wait days for feedback that turns out to be thin, and hiring teams can end up deciding based on who remembered the most.

BrightHire was built to close that gap, and it runs inside the interviews your team already holds on Zoom.

While Zoom gives you the transcript and conversation summary you need for most meetings, BrightHire was purpose-built for your interviews and hiring workflow. It captures each interview against the plan for it, writes the notes and the summary, and syncs them to your ATS, so interviewers can focus on the conversation. Here's how it works.

Why interviews need more than a transcript

While a general-purpose notetaker gives every interviewer a recap of what was discussed, it doesn't know the questions the role calls for, the skills being assessed, or how this candidate’s interview compares to the last three. It captures the conversation, but doesn’t provide the insights and evidence needed for hiring teams to be able to make a confident hiring decision.

BrightHire captures each interview against the team’s interview plan: the questions that matter, the skills being assessed, and the rubric the team agreed on. The notes come back organized around those, so you can see what a candidate said about each one instead of scrolling a transcript to find it.

"I will never interview without BrightHire's AI Interview Notes again. Absolutely a lifesaver."

— Michael Hershfield, CEO at Accrue Savings

How BrightHire works with Zoom

BrightHire connects to Zoom through the Zoom App Marketplace. Your admin installs it, connects your ATS, and sets the recording and consent rules that apply to your team. After that, interviewers and candidates join Zoom interviews just as they normally would.

From there, BrightHire supports your entire interview process:

Before the interview, in BrightHire, the hiring team builds the interview plan. This turns a job description into a structured set of questions and focus areas, drawing on patterns from millions of past interviews, and helps the team set shared evaluation criteria and rubrics so every interviewer is assessing against the same standards. Interviewers walk in with a guide that will help them lead better interviews.

During the interview, BrightHire works natively inside Zoom. BrightHire’s interview assistant opens in a side panel only the interviewer sees, so from the candidate's side it's a normal Zoom interview. The panel guides the interviewer through the plan, so every candidate gets a consistent interview. Interviewers can flag key moments as they go, making them easy to find later, while BrightHire records and transcribes in the background.

After the interview, BrightHire shares notes and highlights. Every interviewer gets AI-generated notes and a time-stamped transcript, plus clips of the moments that mattered, so a hiring manager can watch two minutes instead of rewatching an hour. Interview notes are mapped directly to the ATS scorecard, so completing them is faster, more consistent, and provides the context needed for better decisions. The record flows into the systems your team already uses, including Greenhouse, Workday, Lever, and Ashby.

"The ability to pass data from our ATS into BrightHire about interview questions, then conduct interviews within Zoom to get a holistic view of notes, scores, and insights, is invaluable."

— Amy Schultz, Global Talent Acquisition Leader at Canva

Because every interview is planned, run, and captured the same way, the people making the decision are working from the same evidence.

From first screen to final hiring decision

Interviews are just the beginning of how BrightHire can improve your hiring process and drive better quality hiring decisions.

  •   Screen first-round candidates automatically. BrightHire Screen runs structured screening interviews so recruiters spend their time on candidates who are already qualified. Humans review every result and make the calls.
  •   Catch candidate fraud in the interview. As imposters and AI-assisted answers get harder to spot, Candidate Fraud Detection surfaces integrity signals across screening and live interviews, then rolls them into one auditable read on risk. On Zoom, it adds proprietary identity, device, and deepfake signals available only to Zoom customers. Every signal is backed by reviewable evidence, so your team can investigate and decide.
  •   Compare candidates on the evidence. BrightHire brings together notes, highlights, and transcripts across every interviewer, so debriefs run on what candidates actually said, not who remembers what.
  •   Coach interviewers from real data. Each interviewer gets feedback based on their own interviews, so they improve on what matters for their roles, instead of generic training.
  •   See how hiring actually runs. Interview insights show which questions predict good hires, where interviews drift from the plan, and how consistent the experience is across teams.
  •   Keep a defensible record. Every interview is documented consistently, giving you audit-ready records that support fair, compliant hiring at scale.

Frequently asked questions

Does BrightHire work with Zoom?

Yes. BrightHire syncs to your recruiting calendar and joins Zoom interviews automatically to record and transcribe them, so interviewers don't have to set anything up. During the interview, a native BrightHire Zoom App gives the interviewer their interview guide, structured questions, and a notepad in a side panel, without leaving the Zoom window. Candidates are asked for consent before recording begins, and AI notes and transcripts are ready right after the call. Any Zoom account works, including a free one. BrightHire itself is a paid subscription, licensed separately from Zoom.

Can interviewers use BrightHire outside the Zoom client?

Yes. The Chrome extension gives interviewers the same interview guide and smart notepad as a browser overlay, and connects to ATS workflows so recruiters can review interviews without leaving their ATS. Most teams use the Zoom App, but both work.

How is BrightHire different from Zoom’s My Notes?

My Notes is Zoom's AI notetaker for meetings: it transcribes, summarizes, and pulls out action items from your calls. BrightHire is built for hiring and it treats an interview as part of a hiring process rather than just a meeting. It organizes everything by candidate, role, and interview stage, and structures notes around your interview guide and scorecard, with feedback sent to your ATS in one click. It also handles what hiring specifically requires: candidate consent workflows, data retention and deletion controls, and redaction of sensitive topics. Many teams use both: My Notes for general work meetings, BrightHire for interviews and hiring.

Does BrightHire sync interview notes to my ATS?

Yes. After each interview, notes, summaries, and scores flow into your ATS, so there's no copying and pasting or switching tools. BrightHire integrates with systems including Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby, and Workday, and interviewers can complete their scorecard in one click. See all integrations.

How is BrightHire different from a general AI notetaker?

General notetakers are built for meetings and give you a transcript and a summary of what was said. BrightHire is built for interviews: it structures each one around the plan for the role, ties what the candidate said to your evaluation criteria, syncs to your ATS, and lets you compare candidates and measure interview quality over time. The result is evidence you can hire on, not just a record of the conversation.
