When the COVID-19 pandemic shifted so many colleges and universities to online and hybrid learning, Quinnipiac University was well-positioned to adjust.

The school, based in Hamden, Connecticut, had used Zoom for several years and understood the platform’s potential when the pandemic hit. With traditional in-person classes disrupted, Quinnipiac faculty and staff got creative and built mobile carts to turn every classroom into a Zoom Room. These “Zoom Rooms on wheels” allow faculty to engage every student, whether they are in the classroom or at home.

Quinnipiac also uses Zoom Phone for telephony communications for faculty and staff across campus and at home, Zoom Team Chat for instant messaging, and Zoom Webinars for large events.

“We leverage so many features of Zoom that it has quickly become ingrained in our daily operations,” said Lauren Erardi, director of academic technology at Quinnipiac.

A few things the team at Quinnipiac loves about Zoom:

  • The powerful telephony solution: “We had some very unique needs because of our polling institute. … Once we made the decision for Zoom Phone, we never looked back. And we’re in full production right now, very happily so.”
  • The commitment to innovation: “It became almost an inside joke that when we thought about something that we wished we had, we could literally wait a couple weeks because Zoom was probably working on it.”
  • The impact on modern education: “It’s one of our cornerstones to prepare students for careers in the 21st century, and Zoom is allowing us to help do that.”
