Care is our core value here at Zoom — we care for our company, customers, teammates, ourselves, and our communities. We recognize that every company has an effect on the world, and we care about making our impact as positive as possible.

To that end, we’re excited to introduce Zoom Cares, our philanthropic entity that strives to create a future where all people and the environment are cared for. Our Zoom Cares initiatives are focused on three core areas where we believe we can make a meaningful and lasting difference: education, social equity, and climate change.

Read on to learn about Zoom Cares’ work so far. And while we’re proud of the progress we’ve made, it's just the beginning of our journey as we build a strong foundation of partnerships, engagement, and caring within our local and global communities!

Our commitment to education

So much of Zoom Cares is driven by our passionate employees, whose voices have shaped our giving strategy and helped us determine what causes to support. One of those causes is education.

We believe access to a high-quality education is a fundamental right, and the foundation to a bright and thriving future for all our children. But during the COVID-19 pandemic, millions of students from under-resourced communities may lose nearly a year of learning, which will further widen achievement gaps and affect their future prospects.

That’s why education has been a main focus for us this year. Zoom has provided its education service to over 125,000 schools in 25 countries for free during the pandemic. We also provided training and resources to help more than 35,000 educators teach remotely on Zoom this school year as part of our Zoom Summer Academy

We invested over $1.5 million to ensure students are connected, safe, and learning during these times. Our back-to-school remote learning grants support organizations all over the world that are helping students disproportionately affected by school closures:

  • Annenberg Institute for School Reform
  • Education Leaders of Color
  • Education Superhighway
  • International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE)
  • Profound Gentleman
  • Teach For All

And, we’d love you to join us in giving to some amazing organizations that are working to improve equity in education and keep kids learning during the pandemic. Zoom Cares will match up to $250,000 in donations made by Zoomtopia attendees on Oct. 14 and 15 through Pledgeling — you can donate here.

Equity for all

At Zoom, we believe in equity for all. We’ve started our journey supporting racial justice and equity with a few key partners, donating $250,000 to the Association for the Study of African American Life & History, Equal Justice Initiative, and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. Our work in this space is ongoing, and includes our own diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts.

And, knowing that the pandemic has widened already existing disparities in wealth, access to healthcare, and education, we donated more than $1.4 million to support COVID-19 response. The American Heart Association, CDC Foundation, Destination Home, San Jose Digital Inclusion, and UN World Health Organization are providing much-needed economic relief, improving care access, connecting students remotely, and promoting mental wellness during this difficult time.

A greener, more sustainable world

Zoom Cares is part of our comprehensive sustainability program, which is designed to minimize our impact on the environment and maximize our value of caring, looking at everything from how we manage our facilities to how we lessen the effects of climate change in our community.

So far this year, Zoom has helped reduce 45 million metric tons of carbon emissions by enabling millions of users to work from home during the pandemic. We believe that remote work will continue to play an important role in addressing the climate crisis, and are focusing our efforts on making sure employees can communicate, connect, and collaborate effectively without having to travel unnecessarily.
