Boston MA, March 23, 1998 - Zoom Telephonics (NASDAQ:
ZOOM),
a leading manufacturer of modems and other data communications
equipment, announced today that it has begun high-volume shipments
to Hong Kong of ITU V.90-compliant faxmodems with a Dualmode
feature that automatically negotiates the connection to allow
use with both V.90 and K56flex central sites. Zoom's ITU V.90
faxmodems are distributed by Yutron Tech (Hong Kong) Ltd.,
which also has offices in Taipei, Tokyo, Singapore, Beijing,
and Canton. "We are introducing the Dualmode
products only weeks after the V.90 standard was released by
the ITU," said Ron Murphy, Zoom's International Sales
Manager. "Hong Kong is a very important market for Zoom
Telephonics, and Yutron Tech is a key partner in the growth
of this market." Zoom's 56K products, based on
advanced chipsets from Rockwell Semiconductor Systems, have
won 10 first-place industry awards for performance and value
since their introduction-more than one award per month since
August 1997. The Zoom/FaxModem™ 56K Dualmode has
the ability to receive data from ITU International Standard
V.90 or K56flex sites at speeds up to 56,000 bps. Dualmode
automatically negotiates connections in ITU V.90 mode, K56flex
mode, 33.6 Kbps, or any other ITU International or Bell standard
speed to achieve the fastest, most reliable connection possible.
All 56K Dualmode models provide high-quality voice mail
when used with a soundcard and support both Class 1 and Class
2 fax. They also include V.80 capability, which is required
for point-to-point videotelephony using the H.324 Standard,
and support H.323 Internet applications including videoconferencing.
All Zoom 56K faxmodems feature a reprogrammable Digital
Signal Processor (DSP) and flash memory for easy downloading
of upgrades, as well as ZoomGuard™ lightning protection.
