Zoom VoIP product to be honored in
CES 2005 design & engineering showcase
Boston, MA, November 22, 2004 —
Zoom Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: ZOOM), a leading provider
of communications
products since 1977, announced today that its X5v DSL modem/router
with built-in VoIP has been named an honoree in the Consumer
Electronics Show Innovations 2005 Design and Engineering
Showcase. As one of a family of products in the ZoomTel line,
the X5v provides ADSL users with easy-to-use VoIP “voice
over the Internet.”
“Zoom’s Innovations 2005
submission highlighted the X5v with Global Village® service
as an easy-to-use way for customers to experience the flexibility
and cost savings
of phone service over the Internet,” said Frank Manning,
President and CEO of Zoom Technologies. “The X5v lets
customers use VoIP as an always-on second phone line, saving
money while retaining the proven reliability of conventional
phone service.”
The X5v’s TelePorttm lets customers use standard phones,
including multi-phone cordless systems, to make VoIP calls
and conventional calls, including 911 and 411 calls. The
TelePort’s fail-safe feature automatically routes calls
over the dial-up phone network if power is lost.
The X5v incorporates an ADSL modem, router,
firewall, four-port 10/100 Ethernet switch, USB port and
VoIP phone port.
Global Village service emphasizes flexibility
and customer freedom. Global Village gives X5v customers
absolutely free
VoIP to VoIP calling, and for other calls offers both pay-per-call
and flat-rate plans. “Some of our competitors like
Vonage try to be a customers’ exclusive phone company,” said
Terry Manning, Zoom’s VP Sales and Marketing. “We
recommend that customers retain basic phone service with
their phone company for local calls, 411, 911, and power-outage
situations, and use Global Village for toll calls. Global
Village billing plans let the customer use VoIP a little
or a lot, depending on the particular customer’s needs.”
Products selected for the January 2005
CES Design and Engineering Showcase have been judged to be
superior by a preeminent
panel of independent industry designers, engineers and journalists.
Product evaluations are based on weighted criteria, including
value to users, aesthetics, contribution to the quality of
life, the products’ innovative qualities and overall
excellence.
