Gateways and Bridge Modem Begin Shipment
Products Feature Low Cost,
Easy Installation, and Advanced Networking
Boston, MA, August 16, 2004 — Zoom Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:
ZOOM) announced today that it has begun shipping two new
ADSL gateways and an ADSL bridge modem under the company’s
Hayes brand.
The gateways combine an ADSL modem with an integrated local
area network router to share a high-speed ADSL connection
with up to 253 computers on a network. The gateways also
provide advanced firewall security to protect the attached
computers from hackers. The Hayes Model 15805 gateway includes
an Ethernet port for connection to a computer, hub, or wireless
access point. The Hayes Model 15810 gateway adds a USB port
for connection to a computer’s USB port, and provides
concurrent operation of the USB port and Ethernet port.
The
products’ setup uses a Web browser, simplifying
setup for an end-user, a network administrator, or an Internet
Service Provider. Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP)
allows remote maintenance by network administrators.
The gateways’ security
features include Network Address Translation (NAT) and Stateful
Packet Inspection (SPI). The
NAT firewall hides computers connected to the Hayes gateways
from uninvited access through the Internet. SPI analyzes
the protocol and packet addresses being received to determine
if the information received from the Internet should be passed
through the firewall to the connected computers.
The new Hayes Model 15820 is an ADSL bridge modem, bridging
between an ADSL connection and an Ethernet interface on
a computer or network. The Model 15820 installs automatically
in most situations, and reduces the need for technical
support
by eliminating router and firewall functions.
The new Hayes
products support data downloads at speeds up to 8 Mbps. The
gateways include documentation in Dutch,
English,
French, German, Greek, Portuguese , Spanish, and Turkish.
The bridge modem documentation is in English. The products
are backed by a two year warranty, U.S. and European multi-lingual
support teams, and Zoom’s twenty-seven years of experience
designing and producing communication products for small
offices and homes. For more information about Hayes ADSL products, please
