Zoom
and RingCentral deliver improved Modem-On-Hold in V.92
With these money-saving modems, you don't tie up a phone line
while online
Boston, MA, and Redwood Shores,
CA, April 8, 2002 — Zoom
Telephonics, Inc. (NASDAQ: ZOOM) will begin shipping BuzMe
V.92 Call Notification Software from RingCentral Inc.with all
Zoom V.92 modems for Windows-based computers. If a modem user's
phone service includes the Call Waiting option, the user can
receive a voice call while connected to the Internet on that
same line. Users can then place the Internet connection on
hold and answer the voice call. When the voice call is complete,
the Internet session can be quickly and easily resumed.
The length of time an Internet session can be placed on hold
using the V.92 Modem-On-Hold feature is determined by the
Internet Service Provider. BuzMe's countdown clock conveniently
shows
how much time is available for a conversation when the data
connection is placed on hold. Call management options allow
the user to return to the Internet when the call is complete,
or drop the Internet connection if the voice call requires
an extended period of time.
Zoom's V.92 modems also provide shorter connection times,
plus faster upload and download speeds to significantly improve
the Internet experience. RingCentral, in cooperation with
Zoom,
is including BuzMe V.92 Internet Call Control software with
Zoom brand V.92 modems and Zoom's Hayes brand V.92 modems.
"
BuzMe V.92 is a great addition to our V.92 modems," said
Frank Manning, President and CEO of Zoom Telephonics. "This
software gives our V.92 modem users a powerful, easy-to-use
way to share a single phone line for voice calls and Internet
access."
BuzMe software provides a convenient and friendly user interface
with powerful options for handling phone calls, including:
Caller ID, the countdown clock, call logging, and easy call
management. Caller ID identifies who is calling when the
software is used with the many Zoom modems that include Caller
ID support.
The Modem- On -Hold features of Zoom V.92 modems and BuzMe
software save users time and money. Time is saved when an
Internet connection can be placed on hold, so the need to
negotiate
a new modem connection is eliminated. Money is saved by eliminating
the need for both a voice line and a separate modem line.
"
The modem-on-hold feature of V.92 strengthens users' control
of the 56K Internet experience," said Vlad Shmunis, CEO
of RingCentral. "With the addition of RingCentral's software,
Zoom V.92 users will no longer have to worry about missing
another phone call while tying up a phone line."
Upgrade to BuzMe V.92 Plus
BuzMe V.92 users can upgrade to BuzMe V.92 Plus service with
just a click of a button. BuzMe V.92 Plus service costs
$5.95 a month and works with call forwarding from phone
companies
to deliver enhanced call control and voice messaging
tailored to Internet users.
Working in conjunction with the BuzMe V.92 Plus service,
BuzMe notifies on-line users of incoming calls. The user
can then
take several actions: reply with pre-recorded responses,
reply using text-to-voice messaging, or forward the caller
to another
phone number. All actions are taken without dropping
the Internet connection.
BuzMe V.92 Plus can accept voice messages anytime the
user is not available to answer the phone. Unanswered
calls
are forwarded to a BuzMe V.92 Plus server, which enables
enhanced
call management options. As an example, the server
can record voice messages and allow them to be heard over
the phone,
through an Internet connection, or forwarded to the
user's e-mail as
a multimedia attachment.
