Zoom Wireless Internet Gateway Wins ZDNet "Editors Choice" Award
ZoomAir Internet Gateway IG-4165 Selected As Outstanding Networking Device

Boston, MA, April 4, 2002 — Zoom Telephonics, Inc. (NASDAQ: ZOOM) announced today that its ZoomAir Internet Gateway IG-4165 has been named "Editors Choice" by ZDNet in a comparative lab-based review of wireless networking products. The ZDNet Editors Choice Award represents excellence in a given product category and is presented to products which the reviews editors feel demonstrate superior design, performance, usability, quality, and value.

The ZDNet review determined that the IG-4165 demonstrated the highest throughput in their networking tests. In addition, the unit was found to offer a number of unique features including a parallel port print server, which allows printer sharing even without the attached PC being on, and multiple ports for connection to both broadband and serial communications devices for Internet access.

Firewall security was also described as a significant strength of the IG-4165, with the ability to dynamically open ports based on an outgoing port number as well as offering the option of placing a system outside the firewall as a "DMZ" host. The unit also offers advanced stateful inspection of all Internet traffic.

The ZDNet review concludes by describing the ZoomAir Internet Gateway as a "great product all round," which delivers high wireless throughput and provides wired connections, support for both dial-up and broadband Internet connections and functions as a print server.
