Zoom USB Cable Modem Earns CableLabs Certification
Zoom among first to offer full
range of certified cable modems
Boston, MA, December 15th, 2000 -- Zoom Telephonics
Inc. (NASDAQ: ZOOM)
a leading supplier of Internet access products, today announced
that its external USB cable modem has received CableLabs certification.
Zoom's Ethernet and PCI models were certified in late July
of this year. Zoom is now one of only two companies
offering CableLabs certified cable modems in all three popular
formats, which makes Zoom a one-stop source for service providers,
computer manufacturers and retailers. Unlike the other company,
Zoom has strong brand names worldwide and a team of field
application engineers and technical support professionals
based in the USA. The Zoom CableModem USB simply plugs
into the USB port of a computer and provides professional
installers and consumers with the easiest installation possible.
Cable modems with an Ethernet interface often require the
installation of a network interface card, and internal cable
modems require opening of the computer case. "For anyone
looking for a fast and easy installation, USB is the answer,"
said Dean Panagopoulos, Vice President of Network Products,
Zoom Telephonics. The Zoom CableModem USB is a significantly
less expensive external solution than the combination of an
Ethernet card and Ethernet cable modem. The Zoom CableModem
USB is compatible with desktop and laptop computers using
Windows 98, 2000 and Me operating systems. A Macintosh-compatible
version is expected to be released soon. Zoom's complete
cable modem line complements the company's other new offerings
in ADSL modems and wireless local area networking. Residential
gateway products which distribute broadband data through local
area networks within homes and small business are expected
early next year. Further information about the Zoom
CableModem line may be obtained on the company's Web site
