Zoom
Introduces PCI Modem with On-Board Controller Boston,
MA, June 28, 2000 - Zoom Telephonics Inc., (NASDAQ: ZOOM)
is now shipping the Zoom/FaxModem 56K PCI Plus. The new Model
2920 is a controller-based PCI-bus internal modem for desktop
Windows and Linux PCs. The Zoom/FaxModem 56K PCI Plus is designed
for applications requiring maximum processing power and easy
system integration. A processor on the Zoom/FaxModem
56K PCI Plus controls the Hayes AT commands and data compression,
unlike Windows-only PCI modems which rely on the same central
processor that runs Windows on the host computer. The Model
2920's on-board controller and on-board digital signal processor
result in a more stable system and simplified system integration.
The Model 2920 is ideal for use on servers and gaming computers,
or anywhere system stability and processing power must be
maximized. The Zoom/FaxModem 56K PCI Plus supports
Windows 95, 98, 2000, NT 4.0, and Linux. "This is an
excellent product for the growing Linux market," said
Terry Manning, Zoom's Vice-President of Sales and Marketing.
"The Model 2920 also provides enhanced system performance
for system integrators, Value Added Resellers, and on-line
gamers." This Plug and Play data/fax modem is
dual mode, incorporating both the ITU V.90 and the K56flex
data standards. The Zoom/FaxModem 56K PCI Plus also features
Zoom's new Channel 2 Call Waiting. This allows receipt of
incoming voice calls during Web browsing. Channel 2 is compatible
with all Internet access providers, including America Online,
and all popular Internet browsers and data communications
software packages. The Channel 2 feature works in conjunction
with the Call Waiting service available from most local telephone
companies. Other features of Model 2920 include flash
memory for easy software upgrades, and voice mail with multiple
private mailboxes (sound card required). The Model 2920 is
videophone ready. Like all Zoom fax modems, it includes ZoomGuard
lightning protection to guard against the leading cause of
modem failures. ZoomGuard offers better shielding against
lightning damage than varistors used in competing products
and outperforms most stand-alone surge protectors.
The Zoom/FaxModem 56K PCI Plus Model 2920 is manufactured
by Zoom Telephonics, Inc. and carries a seven-year warranty.
